Both a World’s Fair and a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia drew nearly 10 million visitors over a period of six months.

Philadelphia Museum of Art Curator Colin Fanning will provide context of the artistic and industrial influences surrounding the Exposition, and will share new research relevant to a forthcoming exhibition at Philadelphia Museum of Art.
